How to Set Up a NicoNico Premium Account
Ok, so, in the interest of promoting Ienomi, I've created this guide to signing-up for a NicoNico Premium account.

I've actually wanted to do this for a while, but it required me to cancel my previous account, so that I could sign up for a new one (to document the process), so I was being lazy. ^_^;

Most of this (which consists largely of Massively Big Pics, fyi) can also be seen via my new Moby picture account, but I added some more detailed instructions and such here. I've also posted this to my Turbo_Updates Twitter account. So if anyone wants to pass this info around, feel free to just Re-Tweet it.

* You MUST have an account to watch Ienomi at all.

* There are two types of NicoNico accounts you can sign up for.

→ Regular Accounts are free.

→ Premium accounts cost less than $7 a month.

* If a show gets too many viewers, regular members get kicked out. Premium members are guaranteed to always be able to watch it.

→ With Ienomi, this typically happens about 5 minutes into the show. Therefore:

*You want to get a Premium Account!*

Start by going to http://www.nicovideo.jp/

* * * * *

If you already have a regular account, but need to upgrade it, log in and click here:

-->> Payment Screen.

* * * * *

If you don't yet have an account:

If you really don't want a Premium Account, click the second button. Both will take you to the same sign-up pages.

* * * * *

Signing up is fairly self-explanatory. Email Info CAPTCHA Confirm your email.

Note: One account per email address.

ETA: I just went back and checked and, for Free accounts at least, it now has you confirm your email BEFORE you enter your profile info.

All info is required. Stared ★ info cannot be changed.

+ + + + +

+ + + + +

If you only signing up for a regular account you'll see this, which means you're done.

* * * * *

Otherwise, you need to enter payment info. You will need to use PayPal to pay.

* * * * *

If everything goes right, you should see this, which means you're done!

Once you do have an account, if you need to sign-in you will use the link on top and type your email address, not you username.

And that should get you going with your account! If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.

For instructions on how to actually use your shiny new (Premium) Account to watch Ienomi, see Here.

{{Also, I'm largely just guessing at how on Earth to tag this. O.o}}

Potentially useless notes, but FWIW:

The * next to the 525 yen/month price just leads to a note saying tax is included, and additional charges may apply depending on your internet provider (this is mostly true for phones. People on PCs shouldn't have any concerns)

You CAN pay with many MANY methods other than paypal, including credit cards, mobile credit, web money and so on. Most of these are Japan only though.
Still, if anyone can't (or doesn't want to) use paypal, message this bird and I can help you figure out the other methods <3

Nitpick regarding paypal: You don't get a "standard English" interface so much as you get the interface in the language your paypal account is registered in. (Just in case anyone here wondered)

Nitpicks aside, this is a great guide! ^-^v

Yeah, I figured there were probably other ways, even for people outside of Japan, though Paypal seemed like it would be the quickest and easiest way.

True. It's more that the standard interface you always get pops up.

It's weird, on the one hand I was thinking 'well, it's an English guide, so people will be getting the English interface'.

On the other I knew that wasn't actually going to be the case! I know there are people here that speaking English as a second language, but don't speak Japanese. That's why I included Euro prices in currency list up there.

So how I managed to simultaneously realize and not realize there would be readers who wouldn't speak English as a first language is anyone's guess. ^_^:

Something to note. While premium members can watch programs without time-shifting they can watch it only during a period of time after activating the program.

Meaning after a certain amount of time (think it is 24 hours) you can no longer watch the program. Which I dislike, I pay them money I should be able to watch it until they remove the program from their servers.

I have to double check the specific timeframe, but Ienomi is usually available for about a week or so after it airs.
Azshannarazshannar on September 5th, 2011 10:53 pm (UTC)
Well I meant after you activate the time-shift. It gives you 24 hours to view then you can't watch it again after that.

I have watched shows that were 2-3 months old so long as they have buttons to time-shift.

Huh?

I've watched Ienomi eps. multiple times, several days apart, until they're taken down.
Azshannarazshannar on September 5th, 2011 11:04 pm (UTC)
Well I guess it is random per program. But in most cases I have had time-shifts deactivate. A day or so after starting to watch, when it originally said there was roughly a week or less to watch the show.
